Good morning,

I’m Bryan Fine, MD, MPH, CEO & Founder of Percentric. This e-newsletter – always evolving – focuses on keeping you well by addressing both non-COVID-19 and COVID-19 health concerns. We work hard to keep it real, and real-time.

1. COVID-19 updates

This weekend brought news of COVID-19 cases increasing 53-205% in states with the least restrictive social distancing orders while protesters in some states are demanding current social distancing regulations be lifted.

2. It makes more sense with a picture

If you really just want a picture, diagram, or simulation to help things make sense you HAVE to check out this round up of awesome resources for understanding and tracking COVID-19.

3. To Zoom or not to Zoom

There’s been some controversy over the security of using Zoom for work meetings in this new age of teleworking. Get the details and see what your other options are here.

4. The world needs a little more Bob Ross right now

Have you always wanted to bring a little bit of the soothing peacefulness of Bob Ross videos into your mornings? Well you’re in luck, because there is a Bob Ross themed breakfast cereal, and it’s currently on sale.

5. Ask a Percentric Doc

Today’s question: Why do we have to shut everything down for coronavirus when we didn’t have to shut everything down for other diseases, like the Swine Flu?

The short answer is, notable disease outbreaks in recent years have been one of two things that made them noteworthy: either particularly deadly or particularly easy to spread. But- and this is the important part- none of them have been both. The H1N1 Swine Flu was very contagious, but not very deadly. Ebola, another viral outbreak in recent memory, was just the opposite: very deadly, but actually pretty hard to spread from person to person. The virus responsible for Covid-19 is a little bit of an overachiever, though, and is both very contagious and potentially fatal. So “shutting everything down,” aka, social distancing, is playing a bigger role in our response. See a more detailed explanation here.

Stay safe, smart, and sane.
